Creating a mySQL or pgSQL Database Minimize

While the majority of you hosting your web site at MyWinHosting will only ever use MS-SQL, it is possible to host PHP or Perl  at MyWinHosting alone, or along side your ASP/ASP.NET web site.  Many of those use mySQL as the back end.  Applications such as osCommerce, Drupal, and Joomla all use mySQL to store their data.

To create a database, log into the control panel and click either the "mySQL Server" or "pgSQL Server" icon in the "Databases" group.

On the next page, click the "Add Database" icon.

This will bring up a page that will allow you to enter a name for your database.  Press "Next" to continue.

On the final screen you will be asked for a username, password, confirm password, and role.  Enter this information and press "Add User"  I recommend that you select dba for your initial database user so that you have full rights to access the database.  You can add other users once you've added this first user.

Once you have the users setup, click "Finish."

Your database is initially setup to use 2Megs of space.  If you need to allocate more space, you can navigate back to the SQL Server main screen (the one you got to when you clicked the icons at the beginning) and click the hammer/paper icon to the right of your database name.  On the next screen, click the pencil/paper icon.  This will lead you to a screen where you can change the database size.

You may have noticed that the hammer/paper icon also leads to the screen where you can add additional users for your database.
