Now that you've signed up for a hosting account. One of the first things you'll want to do is upload your files to the web server. This lesson will help you place your files in the right location.
One of the emails you received when you signed up gave you the username and password for ftp access. If you don't have this information all you really need to remember is that the ftp username is the first eight characters of your account name and the password is the same password as the password for your control panel. That is, the same password you used when you signed up.
I'll assume for now that you have and know how to use your ftp client to log in. If you have not already tried LeechFTP, it's a great, free ftp client that can upload and download files quickly due to the fact that it is a multi-threaded client. It also automatically retries the download or upload when a failure occurs. This can be real handy if you have a bad connection between you and our servers.
Once you've logged in, you will be placed in the root directory of your account. Note: we said root of your ACCOUNT, not the root of your domain. If you've added a primary domain of www.xyz.com, then you should see a directory in the ftp client called xyz.com, you'll need to upload your files into that directory in order for them to be available for that domain. If you place them anywhere else, you will not be able to see them from your web browser.
